Self-organised trips

Tel Aviv is the second largest city in Israel and offers visitors both a fantastic glimpse into its history and also a lively and progressive modern lifestyle. Tel Aviv is known as the White City for its unique Bauhaus-style of buildings which has earned it a UNESCO World Heritage Site declaration in 2003. The city also includes the ancient port city of Yafo (Jaffa) which dates back over 4000 years. Tel Aviv is also known as the city that does not stop, and there is enough here to keep even the most demanding traveller happy.

THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN TEL AVIV

  • The ancient port city of Old Jaffa is well worth a visit being medieval in appearance and believed to be the only port in the world that has been inhabited throughout its entire 4000 years history. It is reputed Jonah left this port in his flight from God only later to be swallowed by a fish. However, now Old Jaffa is a popular tourist attraction and home to budding artists, art galleries, gardens, bars and restaurants. Its narrow alleys, named after the signs of the Zodiac are worth visiting for jewellery, archaeological and Judaic establishments as also is the nearby Flea Market.
  • The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is the largest museum in the city and exhibits large collections of paintings from many of the main masters from the 16th – 19th centuries, and also works from many Israeli artists. The Museum of the Jewish Diaspora (Beth Hatefutsoth) tells the incredible story of the Jewish people over the last 2,500 years since their expulsion from Israel. Considered the museum of the Jewish people it offers the complete story through educational techniques and fantastic exhibitions. The Eretz Israel Museum focuses on the land of Israel with its history, culture, folklore, crafts and art.
  • Tel Aviv also offers a great beach scene for where the city meets the sea. There are many beaches in Tel Aviv and each offering their own specialities and types of crowd. Tel Baruch Beach to the north is good for families with wide sandy stretches and easy parking. Hof Hadatiyim (the religious beach) offers separate beaches for both men and women, while Banana Beach is great for relaxing with a coffee or evening beer and a free film on the outdoor cinema screen during the summer.
