Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and a really attractive city to visit with many places of interest including museums, galleries, baroque buildings and an ancient castle high on a hill. The city is the perfect size to discover on foot and to experience the life and culture of the people.

THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN LJUBLJANA

  • The Ljubljanica river flows through the centre of the city and the bridges that cross the river are well worth a visit on your journey by foot. The Triple Bridge (Tromostovje) designed by Jože Plečnik consists of three picturesque bridges crossing the river while the Dragon Bridge (Zmajski Most) is a popular tourist destination being adorned with 4 dragon statues and designed in 1901.
  • The Ljubljana Castle offers great views of the whole city from its tower and throughout its history has served as a prison, a military stronghold, a home for poor families, a place for weddings, cultural events and now visitors. On the hill can also be found a statue dedicated to the Peasant Revolts between the 14th and 16th centuries. These were primarily as a result of the growing divide between the rich and the poor during this time.
  • The Old Town can be found between the castle and the river with two squares overlooked with medieval buildings now housed with shops, cafes and restaurants - a great place to people watch and enjoy the sights and sounds of Ljubljana. A short distance from the town can also be found the remains of Roman occupation including a Roman Wall with gate and pillars.
