One of the world's best NYE's celebrations each year is held in Sydney. Not only is the city transformed into party town, the harbour and Opera House gives a superb backdrop to one of the world's largest fireworks displays. It's so good in fact that they hold two displays - a shortened version at 9.00 pm with the main event at midnight.
Sydney in summer is also one of the hardest places to find a bed - the city is usually booked out well in advance, and travellers can get caught with nowhere to stay.
