Volunteering is the heart of Hostelling International Slovenia. For over a decade, we have been using volunteering to create projects that encourage critical thinking, responsible travel, and solidarity among young travellers. We recognise that volunteering is not just a contribution to the community, but also a journey of personal growth, where young people develop skills, build confidence, and help create change that reaches far beyond our organisation.
Our volunteer environment is open, creative and inclusive. Anyone who joins us becomes part of a team that believes in the power of knowledge, experience, and connection. Our volunteers are not just "helpers", but co-creators of a vision for sustainable tourism and an inspiring youth space, where travel is not the goal, but a tool for personal and social growth.
We focus especially on people under 30, as we believe this is the ideal time for them to explore the world and discover what they are capable of. We encourage participation in international activities like seminars and projects, where they can learn, collaborate, and build networks with their peers. We also welcome anyone over 30, as the role of mentors and experienced individuals who pass on knowledge and wisdom to younger generations is invaluable. Together we build bridges between generations and create opportunities for experiences to be shared both ways.
If you are interested in using your knowledge, energy, and curiosity to help create content that encourages a different perspective on the world, we invite you to join at least one of the three main pillars of our volunteering programme:
If you are interested in sustainable mobility, climate change, non-formal education and youth work, then this is the right activity for you. As a volunteer in this area, you will be part of the international programme, which we run in partnership with organisations from Germany, Spain, and Portugal.
You can participate in:
TDFF is not just a programme, but a community of young people who travel differently and want to promote change. It is a great chance to develop practical skills, explore Europe, and broaden your horizons in a responsible, thoughtful and inspiring way.
If you enjoy writing, researching new topics, journalism, or creating digital content, you can use your creativity to contribute to our free online magazine Globetrotter that we have been creating for over 15 years, and the travel series Popotniški snep. These are media that inspire, educate and broaden horizons, especially among young people who are looking for authentic and responsible paths.
You can participate in this activity by:
This activity gives you the chance to try travel journalism or digital content creation while helping create quality media that shares the voices of those challenging mass tourism.
If you are interested in digital communication, graphic design, or managing social media, you can build your skills by helping with the promotional and content support of Hostelling International Slovenia.
Possible areas include:
This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to develop their digital skills, learn modern tools, and help raise the profile of projects that are changing the way we travel for the better.
We will be happy to answer any questions and help you find the role that suits you best. Send your questions to anja.zepic@youth-hostel.si and we will send you a detailed description of each activity along with the next steps to join the programme.
Together with more than 100 volunteers across Slovenia, we are co-creating changes that spread across borders. Join us. Your knowledge, energy and curiosity can make a big difference.
