The work has been going on for 23 years and has been completed since 1990. The monumental architecture of the castle is one of Europe's most important historical legacies and one of the most beautiful castle architectures of all time. Notre-Dame Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Church located in the centre of Luxembourg City. The beginning of construction dates back to 1613 and continues until 1938, when finishing works were established on the cathedral. It is built in the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles with distinctive Gothic support columns along the nave. The cathedral windows are decorated with stained glass, which was created in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Gothic cathedral comprises a tomb containing the remains of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, as well as the Luxembourg Count Henry the Blind and members of the Grand Ducal family. The interior of Notre-Dame Cathedral was designed in the Baroque style by the German sculptor Daniel Müller, who decorated the Gothic support columns, made Baroque statues of angels and the organ gallery.
The beginning of the founding of the capital of the present-day eponymous state of Luxembourg is discussed by the year 963 and its founders Count Siegfried of the Ardennes. It inherits a small fortress called Lucilinburhuc, after which the present Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and its capital are named. Lucilinburhuc Fortress was built on the northeastern promontory of what is now the capital of Luxembourg to provide security against the encroachment of foreign nations into the area. Since the 10th century, the territory of the Duchy has extended over several European countries, such as Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. In the early 14th century Count Henry VII. Luxembourg became the first Roman-German emperor of the Luxembourg dynasty, after which his throne was succeeded by three other Luxembourgish rulers of the Holy Roman Empire. In the 16th century, the Duchy of Luxembourg joined the Free County of Burgundy, which operated for over eight centuries.
Lucilinburhuc fort is a small castle with a chapel built near the fish market, where the Michaelskirche Church stands today. The chapel was built in 987 for the first count of the Luxembourg Siegfried dynasty of the Ardennes, who built his castle not far from the fortification Lucilinburhuc, which is the beginning of the founding of the city and the state of Luxembourg. The acquired Lucilinburhuc fortress succumbed to demolition in the second half of the 19th century after the Prussian victory in the Austro-Prussian War, when with the Treaty of London Luxembourg became a free and independent state from the monarchy of the Netherlands.
The Larochette Castle was founded in the 11th century in the middle of the city of Larochette in the central part of Luxembourg. The remains of the castle rise 150 meters along the White Ernz River on the cape of the smaller administrative unit Mersch. The castle was hit by a severe fire in the 16th century and destroyed four of the five castles adjacent to the main building of Larochette Castle. Only the Créhange Mansion is preserved, in which a museum with a concert hall is open. The main building of the castle was once surrounded by walls and with a deep trench divided into two parts. The Créhange Castle Museum displays a model of the reconstructed castle in its original state.
The Bourscheid Castle is a medieval fortress with eleven guard towers, first mentioned in 1095. It is located next to the small town of Bourscheid, in the smaller administrative district of Diekirch near an archaeological site from the time of ancient Rome. It is located 150 meters above the river Sûre and is accessible only from the northwest side, where the path to the entrance to the castle winds. Today, two buildings are reconstructed according to the old plan of the castle, such as the porter's apartment and the Stolzemburger house.
