Actually, not literally, even though it took effort and engagement to make the “Hans Wallisch House” (boarding school of the HTL Braunau) part of the hostelling network.
The house was completely renovated, which took two construction phases – from March 2016 to June 2018 – when we have opened some parts of the building to tourists and school groups. The former three to four-bed-rooms with shared bathrooms and toilets were reconstructed to modern and big two-bed-rooms including bathroom and toilet. Furthermore there are apartments for four guests including a shared kitchen.
Owner of the house, the Upper Austrian Heimbauverein and the Sovea Company run the rooms dedicated to the boarding school as well as the ones used as hostel/hotel.
The long-term cooperation between Heimbauverein, the City of Braunau and the Upper Austrian Youth Hostel Association ended with the beginning of the renovation. Now the executive directors from Upper Austria, Irene Aichinger (Heimbauverein) and Sabine Kempinger (Youth Hostel Association) brought the two companies back to one table and from now on there are 60 beds in the “Hans Wallisch House” provided to members of the international organization Hostelling International.
The team in Braunau runs the Hostel successfully due to years of experience and professional expertise.
Now there is only one thing left to say: welcome to the Youth Hostel Braunau!
